BACK THEN…
The origin story of Winkler Roofing, Inc. is simply one of a father and his son, chasing after a small piece of the American Dream. Robert and Mike Winkler founded Winkler Roofing, Inc. in the spring of 1974 with just a ladder, a small tar kettle, a handful of tools, and an old pickup truck.
Born out of a strong desire to run their own business, some life experience with roofing and basic construction, and a willingness to provide service to others, these two Sioux City firefighters built their roofing company, piece by piece, during their days off. They began with small shingle and tar roof repairs. The business grew!
After renting a small area in a building located on 3rd Street for about a year, their first official warehouse was located just off Correctionville Road, within the footprint of what is now the Gordon Plaza - Hy-Vee strip mall. By 1995, continued growth required a larger warehouse facility. Winkler Roofing, Inc. operations are still currently located at that facility on 28th Street, just east of Business Highway 75. In 1998, as technology progressed, they added membrane roofing to their list of services offered to Siouxland.
…AND NOW
In 2012, Jeff Winkler, Mike’s son, joined the family roofing business as the third generation of Winkler men “born to roof.” Jeff brought with him years of civil engineering and land development experience, which combined nicely with his youthful years of roofing experience, having grown up in and around the family business.
Jeff, along with his English Setters, Shiner and Cooper, officially took over the reins of Winkler Roofing, Inc. in September 2014. Since then, business, technology, the roofing industry, and even the weather continue to evolve. However, one belief has remained consistent: “Provide excellent service and quality at a fair price, and success for all will follow.”
